Compared with the traditional storage method, the kitchen vacuum sealing method of the vacuum packaging machine can significantly improve the food preservation period. Depending on the type of food, storage conditions and the initial quality of the food, the time of vacuum preservation will vary.

Most vacuum-sealed foods will keep in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks, while non-vacuum-sealed foods will usually keep in the refrigerator for 1-3 days.

How long can different food types be kept vacuum sealed?

1. Dry food

Vacuum-sealed dry foods such as rice, pasta, beans, and nuts can last for a long time, usually 2-3 years or more, if stored in a cool, dark place.

2. Refrigerated food

Vacuum-sealed refrigerated foods, such as meats, cheeses, and leftovers, will keep in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks. Vacuum sealing helps prevent bacterial growth, but doesn't completely eliminate the need for refrigeration.

3. Frozen food

The freezer life of vacuum-sealed frozen foods is significantly extended.

Generally speaking, vacuum-sealed food can be kept in the refrigerator for 2-3 years, while traditional packaged food can only be kept for 6-12 months. Properly sealed packaging also helps prevent frostbite, which can affect quality.

What do you need to be aware of before consuming vacuum-sealed food?

While vacuum sealing with a kitchen vacuum sealer can significantly extend the shelf life of food, it does not guarantee indefinite storage. Some foods can still spoil over time due to natural degradation or other factors such as freezer burn.

Check for signs of spoilage such as unusual smells, colours, textures or molds before consuming vacuum-sealed food to ensure food safety.
